In April 2016, Dr. Shafi Ahmed became the first surgeon to offer a live virtual surgery experience. He performed live surgery to remove tumour at the royal London Hospital, where about 55000 people in 140 countries and 4000 cities were tuned in to share the experience.

Dr. Ahmed will be speaking on the topic, the Virtual Surgeon enlightening on inclusion of augmented reality, virtual reality and robotics in current surgical education in London, at the Minimally Invasive Surgery Congress.
The two-day, three-stream congress is scheduled to take place on 7 – 8 March 2017 at the Radisson Blue Edwardian Heathrow Hotel which will conduct discussion on novel concepts and technologies pertaining to urology, colorectal, hip and knee minimally invasive surgeries.
