Ian Gibson

Ian Gibson

Professor, University of Twente

Ian Gibson is Professor of Design Engineering in the Department of Design, Production & Management as well as Scientific Director of The Fraunhofer Project Centre at The University of Twente, located at Enschede, The Netherlands. Originally from Scotland, he has worked at Universities in England, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia before finally arriving in The Netherlands in 2018. He is a specialist in advanced manufacturing technology and is particularly well-known for his pioneering works in the field of Additive Manufacturing (AM), more commonly known as 3D Printing. He first started working in this area in 1992, where he was part of the first dedicated research group at the University of Nottingham. He has researched and published widely on the general topics of advanced manufacturing technology, with over 300 published outputs to his name. He is most well-known for his applications research focus and working with many of the top-cited researchers in AM. In 1994 he started the first journal dedicated to AM, The Rapid Prototyping Journal (published by Emerald), which remains one of the premier academic publications and he remains managing editor to this day. He also co-wrote the most widely-read book on the subject, "Additive Manufacturing Technologies", published by Springer, which is known to have been downloaded over 4 million times, making it by far the most read text on manufacturing technology ever. His directorship of the Fraunhofer Project Centre aims to deliver research in advanced manufacturing to industry, including industrialisation of AM and at developing next generation manufacturing solutions for the region and beyond.

Pat Carey joined Stratasys in January 2014 and has held a number of roles, including VP of Sales, VP of Strategic Growth and is now responsible for Products and Solutions in the Americas, which includes bringing new products to market, integrating acquisitions and product management in Stratasys Direct Manufacturing, the Stratasys service bureau.

Pat has spent his career in a variety of business development, marketing and sales roles, centered on disruptive technology. He served as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Siemens’ Smart Grid Division, has held Executive positions at 3 Silicon Valley startups, and served in a variety of roles at IBM during his 18-year tenure, most notably he was the global sales manager for IBM’s Blue Gene supercomputer through 3 generations of the product, culminating in 2009 with the award of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from President Barack Obama.

Tim Schniepp leads the Application Engineering team and Business Development at Xerox responsible for supporting customers globally in the validation of high value applications for ElemX liquid metal additive manufacturing. Prior to joining Xerox in early 2021, Tim led materials and process engineering teams at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, GE Aviation, and Lockheed Martin, as well as additive manufacturing product and business development teams at Stratasys and 3M.

Donald Godfrey is employed with SLM-Solutions as Sr. Fellow, Aerospace and Department of Defense Additive Strategy.  He is a globally recognized authority on additive manufacturing.  He is an author, speaker and inventor and coach.

Donald spent 14 years at Honeywell Aerospace incorporating additive manufacturing technology.  He has opened 3D printing laboratories in China, Czech Republic, India, Mexico and three printing facilities in Phoenix, Arizona with two being production facilities.  Donald has spent the several years developing the global supply chain for additive.   Before this endeavor he was employed for 11 years at Rolls Royce Aerospace.

He is an author having published the book Additive Manufacturing of Metals: The Technology, Materials, Design and Production; Springer Series in Advanced Manufacturing; 2017; ISBN 978-3-319-55127-2 ISBN 978-3-319-55128-9 (eBook)

Donald has been awarded over 30 patents in the United States related to additive manufacturing and a similar number in Europe.
