Kyree Thomas
Kyree Thomas
Manager of Sterile Processing,
Northside Hospital, USA

I am a 10-year Sterile Processing veteran with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from SUNY at Albany in Albany, NY. I received my Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. I am in my first year of being a senior leader in the hospital, fighting for a change for Sterile Processing.

I enrolled in the MBA program just months after becoming a first-time mother, seeing it as an opportunity to build an even brighter future for my daughter and me. Within a month of attending school, I learned the importance of time management and the avoidance of task overload— skills that proved even more valuable after giving birth to my son following my first year in the MBA program. Although a growing family meant scaling back my course load and “learning humility” in my simultaneous parenting and academic journey, my commitment to succeeding at both never wavered.

“I worked hard at work and stayed over every day for two hours to ensure my commitment to school was never sacrificed.” I spent 10.5 hours at work, drive one hour home to pick the kids up at daycare and provide dinner, and then—after the children were bathed and tucked in bed—I would go back to completing my school assignments. I credit much of my discipline to spending seven years in the Air National Guard, where I live by the motto “Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.”

My strong work ethic and desire to work in the healthcare profession started at a young age. At age 14, I began working at my local hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY; Vassar Brothers Medical Center. 19 years later, I still enjoy working in the healthcare field. I envision myself continuing to learn and grow and becoming even more involved within my discipline. My master’s degree will allow me to serve as an effective senior healthcare leader and help motivate staff to consistently provide quality patient care. “Providing patients with a quality product is the most valuable gift we can give in healthcare.”
