John works closely with multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals within Wales to promote standards for the decontamination of medical devices

In 1997, he was appointed as Consultant Medical Microbiologist/Infection Control Doctor of the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, UK. He was granted Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer status with the University of Sheffield. He was then appointed as Director of Infection Prevention and Control for the Trust in 2000 until 2017. 

He led the Level 7 Credit 30 Healthcare Associated Infections Module at Sheffield Hallam University annually since 2011 which was consistently highly evaluated.  He co-led the Medical Leadership Programme for Iraqi doctors, dentists and pharmacists at the University within the context of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health. 

When appointed in Qatar November 2017 through his appointment as Senior Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Chair of Infection Prevention and Control Committee of Ambulatory Care Center and Vice-Chair of Infection Prevention and Control of Al-Wakra Hospital and then Vice-Chair of Clinical Pathology, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology of the Hamad Medical Corporation he has led several initiatives in Clinical Microbiology, Infection Prevention and Control and in management namely workforce affairs and governance matters within the DLMP.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic was appointed as the DLMP Focal Point for Covid-19 testing and was involved in numerous initiatives in the diagnosis, prevention and control of Covid-19 at the Hamad Medical Corporation including active engagement with the press, radio, and TV media.

Katie-Rose has a specialist interest in electronic hand hygiene monitoring systems (EHHMS). After completing a BSc in Biological Sciences in 2014, she embarked on a career as a Business Analyst working to digitise patient records in the Middle East and the UK. She has since successfully supported over 30 healthcare startups to gain investment, and to design and evaluate their products to improve patient care. In 2018 she returned education to study Medicine at Swansea University. She now combines her expertise in innovative technology with her academic interest in reducing HCAIs through improved staff HH compliance.

In 2018 Salim joined Boston Scientific to apply his experience to the quickly developing arena of Endoscopy with a specific focus on Infection Prevention and Therapeutic Imaging Platforms.

He is working under the supervision of Professor Tom Bourne and has presented internationally on pregnancy of unknown location risk and outcome prediction.

In September 2019, she became an Independent Nurse Consultant and since the pandemic she posts as IPC Matron at the Yorkshire and Humber Nightingale NHS Hospital and more recently Nurse Manager for the Covid Vaccination programme at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

During my career I have worked in many roles from Theatre Manager to Sterile Services Manager for a large NHS Trust where I undertook further education in ‘Decontamination Science’ as well as ‘Leadership Skills’. In recent times I have worked as part of the commissioning team for a brand-new Hospital which achieved a CQC outstanding rating at its first attempt. Currently I am working as a consultant in Theatre Management to a large private healthcare provider in the UK whilst studying for a Masters Degree in Business and Administration with the Open University.

Trevor now works as an independent consultant providing professional advice and training in decontamination after 37 years in the NHS. He held various Decontamination roles at 2 Trusts and as such he has gained substantial experience within the field. Include the design and operation of new builds in sterile services and endoscopy. He also was an Associate Director of Clinical Support Services at Surrey and Sussex NHS Healthcare Trust for 2 years where he gained further knowledge of Pathology, Radiology, Outpatients, Cancer Services and Pharmacy.

Trevor was the Director of Education for the Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) from 2011 to 2018 (end of term of office) and led a team with Health Education England developing an apprenticeship programme for decontamination personnel. He is still a member of the IDSc education sub committee and arranges the speakers for the annual IDSc conference

David received his B.A. (Mod.) Hons., Ph.D. and Sc.D. from Trinity College Dublin (TCD). Joining the TCD School of Dental Science in 1989, he is now Professor of Oral and Applied Microbiology and Head of the division of Oral Biosciences. He is the winner of the RIA silver medal for Microbiology. Published in 235+ articles in peer-reviewed international journals and books, his research interests focus on translational microbiology including automated minimisation of infection risks from water networks and medical devices, and the population biology, evolution, genomics and antibiotic resistance mechanisms of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), coagulase-negative staphylococci, vancomycin-resistant enterococci and Pseudomonas species.

Karen started her career at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary when she worked in pharmacy manufacturing. 

After 20 years she move into sterile services moved to the Leeds Trust.  She attained MSc Decontamination with the UHI in 2009. 

She moved jobs in Jan 2014 and now works for the Sheffield trust as Deputy Operations Director decontamination.

She is the Membership Secretary for the Central Sterilising Club.

Pawel is an R&D engineer with a passion for clever solutions, first and foremost. He holds degrees in mechanical engineering, automation, robotics and business; from this background stem innovation, interdisciplinary and cooperative approach to projects.

He has been involved in the R&D of decontamination and sterilisation technologies since 2007. Initially, an R&D engineer at Medisafe International, and since 2014 as a managing director at Aseptium.

Pawel has a focus and drive to impact the global problem of hospital-acquired Infections. Today, based in Scottish Highlands, he leads an expert team researching, designing, prototyping, and evaluating innovative solutions to solve challenges in decontamination of complex surgical instruments, contamination detection and identification, and fluid dynamics and ultrasonic waves in washers.

Mark has been working in Health Care for over twenty years, starting as an Operating Department Practitioner in theatres, then progressed into theatre management and for the last 12 years has been an active Decontamination Manager at both Operational and Commissioning levels for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Mark is very active in continual improvement of Decontamination processes both locally and nationally, representing on the All Wales Assembly Government Decontamination Committee and participating in reviewing and updating National Guidance for Department of Health.

Mark is currently researching the effects of different types of chemistries on protein / soil residues,  the effects of ultrasonic activity on difficult to remove protein / soils,  investigating biofilm issues within endoscope channels and also systems for keeping soiled instruments moist prior to reprocessing.
