As a result, CEOs are looking at top executives to lead these cross-functional initiatives, which often involve marketing, sales, product, services and back office all working together. The CSO happens to be one of the only roles responsible for understanding all functions of the business. Possessing the ability to bounce between facilitating strategic planning and leading cross-function operational execution is no easy task. It’s time for CSOs to prove their relevance by stepping up and helping guide their organizations forward. CSOs that are unable to shift into cross-functional team leader status to drive implementation of strategic initiatives may find themselves marginalized.
