Dr. C\u00e1tia Moutinho is the Associate Director of\nGarvan-Weizmann Centre for Cellular Genomics, at the Garvan Institute\nSydney-Australia. Also, she is the Group Leader of the Single Cell Technology\nDevelopment Team. Her group focuses on single-cell genomics development. She is\na biologist by training, with a PhD in Biomedicine and a master in Clinical\nTrials and Medical Affairs. She has an extensive experience in the wet-lab,\nwith a strong background in single-cell technology, as well as cancer genetics\nand epigenetics. C\u00e1tia is also co-founder of the Single-Cell Ninjas Project, a\nplatform that shares knowledge about single-cell technology and guides\nresearchers step-by-step towards their goals..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my opinion, the recent advances in the genetic\nsequencing field are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022  The long fragment reads sequencing methods, including the sequencing of RNA molecules modifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022   The next-generation sequencing and its combination with single cell and spatial -omics approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me there are two main challenges. One, to make\nthese technologies more accessible and user-friendly. It would be great to have\ntechnologies that generate data that could be readily accessible without the\nneed for a bioinformatics expert. Second, the ability to decrease the\nsequencing error rates, that are higher when compared with the previous\nsequencing technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question : <\/strong>What\nis the key take away point from your presentation topic which will help in\nbuilding the knowledge base of attendees? \n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My\npresentation will be about Spatial Transcriptomics. After attending my talk,\npeople will have an overview about the different spatial transcriptomics\ntechnologies and protocols; awareness about the type of samples that can be\nused and the necessary quality check points; and finally information on the\napplications of this technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
