Dr. Williams is the President and CEO of BriaCell\nCorporation, where he has shepherded Bria-IMT\u2122 into the clinic, established\npositive proof-of-concept, forged a collaboration with Incyte for novel\ncombinations and coordinated the development of an off-the-shelf personalized\napproach to cancer immunotherapy. While at Incyte Corporation as Head of\nExploratory Development, he brought numerous molecules into the clinic and\nestablished proof of concept in several disease areas. At GlaxoSmithKline he\nworked to bring several molecules into the clinic, ran a biomarker laboratory\nand spearheaded initiatives to utilize emerging technologies in drug\ndevelopment. At the University of Pennsylvania, he developed novel methods of\nbioactive peptide design, ran a major research program in receptor biology, and\nwas able to bring novel therapies into the clinic.  He has been involved\nin several successful new drug applications, including drugs for lymphoma,\novarian cancer, osteoporosis, nausea and vomiting, myelofibrosis and\npolycythemia vera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recent advances include combination\nimmunotherapy with the potential to markedly boost the immune responses to the\ncancer in a targeted way while alleviating immune suppression.  This, along with personalized approaches,\nwill propel the industry going forward. \nImmediate challenges are the uptick in later stage cancer we will be\nseeing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. \nMany patients avoided seeing their physicians during the pandemic,\nmissed mammogram appointments and other similar screening appointments, and we\ncan expect an uptick in later stage cancers. \nImmunotherapies that work in later stages are needed to address this\nneed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: <\/strong>What\nis the key take away point from your presentation topic which will help in\nbuilding the knowledge base of attendees? \n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr.\nWilliams:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\nhave an immunotherapy approach based on cancer cell lines that act also as\nantigen presenting cells.  These have\nbeen used in breast cancer to immunize patients and produce high levels of\nclinical benefit especially in patients who match the cell line at HLA loci,\nwhich is consistent with our mechanism of action.  Based on these observations, we have\ngenetically engineered our cell line to express 15 different HLA types\n(expressed in 4 cell lines) which will allow us to match >99% of the patient\npopulation.  This provides the opportunity\nto personalize our cellular immunotherapy but take advantage of the\noff-the-shelf nature of our technology. \nThis is also being extended into non-small cell lung cancer, prostate\ncancer and melanoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
