Jyoti Chandok<\/strong> is a seasoned professional who has been working in\nthe healthcare sector for over 19 years. She has fulfilled several roles\nspecializing in patient care including phlebotomy, blood analysis for\nhematology, immunology, genetics, and specialized method development for HIV\ndrug-level testing using mass spectrometry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, Jyoti is an Assistant Chief Medical\nTechnologist of Point-of-Care at the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) in\nMontreal, Quebec, Canada. She holds a B.Sc. in Cell and Molecular Biology from\nConcordia University and is an active member of both the Ordre professionnel\ndes technologistes m\u00e9dicaux du Qu\u00e9bec (OPTMQ) and the Canadian Society for\nMedical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Point-of-Care\ntests are particularly important in areas where access to hospital laboratory\ntesting may be a challenge. The use of POC tests eases the burden placed on\nlaboratories as the number cases and testing continues to increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question:<\/strong> How POCT is helping in\ndiagnosis of Infectious Diseases and how it is significant in current\nsituation. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The use of POC\ntesting, particularly for COVID is important since the required quarantining is\nchallenging to implement and enforce. The shorter response time is hopefully\nassisting in diagnosing positive cases more rapidly and allowing patients with\nnegative results to resume their normal activities sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
