In 1997, he was appointed as Consultant Medical Microbiologist/Infection Control Doctor of the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, UK. He was granted Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer status with the University of Sheffield. He was then appointed as Director of Infection Prevention and Control for the Trust in 2000 until 2017.
He led the Level 7 Credit 30 Healthcare Associated Infections Module at Sheffield Hallam University annually since 2011 which was consistently highly evaluated. He co-led the Medical Leadership Programme for Iraqi doctors, dentists and pharmacists at the University within the context of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health.
When appointed in Qatar November 2017 through his appointment as Senior Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Chair of Infection Prevention and Control Committee of Ambulatory Care Center and Vice-Chair of Infection Prevention and Control of Al-Wakra Hospital and then Vice-Chair of Clinical Pathology, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology of the Hamad Medical Corporation he has led several initiatives in Clinical Microbiology, Infection Prevention and Control and in management namely workforce affairs and governance matters within the DLMP.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic was appointed as the DLMP Focal Point for Covid-19 testing and was involved in numerous initiatives in the diagnosis, prevention and control of Covid-19 at the Hamad Medical Corporation including active engagement with the press, radio, and TV media.

John manages the team where the role is defined to provide technical advice, validation services and promote and develop guidance. I am an enthusiastic Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Specialist working in an acute NHS Trust. I have recently achieved my MSc in Infection Prevention and Control which has been invaluable in fuelling my passion for education within IPC. I am a member of the Education and Professional Development Committee of the Infection Prevention Society and have also been involved in supporting local schools with educating children on the importance of clean hands and respiratory etiquette. Dr Elaine Cloutman-Green is a Consultant Clinical Scientist working within Infection Prevention and Control and Lead Healthcare Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). She started her Clinical Scientist training in 2004 in Microbiology and in 2007 she specialised in Infection Prevention and Control. Her research focusses on the development and implementation of rapid molecular typing schemes and investigation of the role of the environment in transmission of infection. She is the Chair of the Environmental Network, member of the ACB Microbiology Professionals Committee, and Country Ambassador for the American Society of Microbiology. She also holds strategic positions as a member of the NHS England AMR Programme Board and London Clinical Senate Council. In 2021 she was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to healthcare. Dr Shanom Ali is the associate professor of microbiology and clinical microbiologist at University College London Hospital. Dr Ali is vastly experienced and very passionate in improving healthcare services. Ursula Morby is the ADON Group Decontamination Lead at UL Hospital Limerick, covering one model 4 hospital and four model 2 hospitals. Ursula started her career at Barnet & Edgware hospital as a staff nurse. Ursula has worked across various departments in hospitals in both the UK and Ireland as a senior staff nurse. During her time at Nuffield Health Chandlers Ford Hospital, Ursula designed, commissioned, and managed a new endoscopy unit. Over the last 20 years Ursula has focused her career in becoming an expert in hospital decontamination and has recently completed a BSc in Nurse Manager as well as a MSc in Advanced Leadership with the RCSI.

Dr Satta is a consultant in infection and the infection control doctor at University College Hospitals/honorary Associated Professor at UCL.
He began his medical training in Italy before coming to the UK to study at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He then undertook specialist training in both infectious diseases and microbiology. He was also an academic fellow at UCL where he completed a PhD on whole genome sequencing and M. tuberculosis. He also holds an MBA in Healthcare, a Master of Public Health, the DTM&H and he is board certified in infection and prevention control (CIC).
Tracey Scott has extensive experience in the field of decontamination services having started her role as a CSSD technician in May of 2001, she was promoted to senior CSSD technician and studied decontamination to become the manager of the CSSD in Mount Carmel Hospital, CDU Manager at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, she moved to the role of Decontamination Business development Manager from 2016-2019 for Zehnacker Healthcare Ireland.
Tracey has been the CSSD manager in the Dublin Dental University Hospital from December 2019 to the present date.
Her education consists of BSc Sterile Services Management, CDU Advanced Managers course (City & Guilds), Minor award in Endoscopy Decontamination. She currently holds the position of Vice Chair of the Irish Decontamination Institute.
Trevor now works as an independent consultant providing professional advice and training in decontamination after 37 years in the NHS. He held various Decontamination roles at 2 Trusts and as such he has gained substantial experience within the field. Include the design and operation of new builds in sterile services and endoscopy. He also was an Associate Director of Clinical Support Services at Surrey and Sussex NHS Healthcare Trust for 2 years where he gained further knowledge of Pathology, Radiology, Outpatients, Cancer Services and Pharmacy.
Trevor was the Director of Education for the Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) from 2011 to 2018 (end of term of office) and led a team with Health Education England developing an apprenticeship programme for decontamination personnel. He is still a member of the IDSc education sub committee and arranges the speakers for the annual IDSc conference

Karen Egan is currently employed as Associate Director of Nursing for IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) within an Integrated Care System in the East of England.
Karen’s extensive nursing career of 35 years has included 25 years of working within infection prevention and decontamination and is supported by an MSc in Health Protection and an MProf (Professional Studies).
With a keen interest in blending the art and science of all things infection prevention, Karen’s key aim is to ensure that staff are aware of current practice and understand how to implement quality care effectively, consistently and with patient safety in mind. This has never been more important as we balance the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic with maintaining IPC ‘business as usual’.
Karen is committed to IPC education and regularly runs short courses and educational sessions to help inform and empower staff, holding the view that if staff recognise the risk certain organisms present and their routes of transmission, preventative measures will make sense to staff and aid compliance with infection prevention methodologies.

Mark Furmage is an Operational Estates Manager at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and community premises, working within the Estates Department for Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. This is one of the seven Health Boards within NHS Wales. His role is dedicated to all aspects of health care estates management and manages a team of over 40 staff whilst carrying out authorised person roles over a number of engineering disciplines.
Mark is currently studying to complete the IHEEM Authorising Engineer Decontamination framework which will lead to the Authorising Engineer Decontamination status, following completion of the framework and associated interviews. Mark has worked within NHS Wales for 30 years. His participation at today’s event is independent of his role within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

I am a registered ODP with an interest in Decontamination Science within the operating department as well as education. During my career I have worked in many roles from Theatre Manager to Sterile Services Manager for a large NHS Trust where I undertook further education in ‘Decontamination Science’ as well as ‘Leadership Skills’. In recent times I have worked as part of the commissioning team for a brand-new Hospital which achieved a CQC outstanding rating at its first attempt. Currently I am working as a consultant in Theatre Management to a large private healthcare provider in the UK whilst studying for a Masters Degree in Business and Administration with the Open University.
